The collection reflects the history of Magdeburg from the foundation of the archbishopric by Emperor Otto I in the 10th century to the time of Otto von Guericke in the 17th century. The inscriptions represent the two dynamic centres that promoted Magdeburg's development into a major medieval and early modern city: the archbishop's seat with the cathedral chapter, and the strong city society with the council at its head, which established itself in the 12th/13th century. 03 00 Der Band enthält 438 Katalogartikel mit fast 800 Inschriften, die aus der originalen und kopialen Überlieferung erfasst werden konnten. Das Ziel des Projektes ist die Sammlung und Edition aller lateinischen und deutschen Inschriften des Mittelalters und der Frühen Neuzeit bis zum Jahr 1650. Das Sammelgebiet umfasst nach heutigem Stand Deutschland und Österreich sowie Südtirol. Die Ergebnisse der Sammlung werden in den DI-Bänden ediert. Ein Band beinhaltet entweder die Inschriften eines bzw. mehrerer Stadt- oder Landkreise oder die Inschriften einzelner Städte.
