Das Sammelgebiet umfasst nach heutigem Stand Deutschland und Österreich sowie Südtirol. Die Ergebnisse der Sammlung werden in den DI-Bänden ediert. Ein Band beinhaltet entweder die Inschriften eines bzw. mehrerer Stadt- oder Landkreise oder die Inschriften einzelner Städte.
