The catalogues of the „Hertziana“ are beyond doubt an unique special bibliography. 03 00 The catalogues cover about 150,000 volumes; their main emphasis lies in the international literature on the art and culture of Italy, from early Christian times up to the present time. The horizon of the library is not determined by the political frontiers of Italy but by the radius of influence on art of the northern and mediterranean countries. This scope of curatorial interest concentrates on a topic rich in tradition, the subject of intensive scientific research, thus offering a unique density of holdings as well as availability by cataloguing and classification. Recataloguing and rearrangement of the library having just been completed, the catalogues of the Hertziana have been admitted to the list of special bibliographies unique in its kind. The „Systematic shelflist“ (c. 115,000 entries) supplies monographies and serials in a complete list, arranged according to relevant topics. As a guide serves a detailed classification outline, which is to be published as a special volume. The „Alphabetic catalogue“ (c. 245,000 entries) comprises the complete record of holdings, carefully catalogued: authors, anonymous works, serials and numerous references. The „Analytic catalogue“ (c. 120,000 entries) lists the authors of articles of the scope with curatorial interest. Apart from compilations of works by several authors (Festschriften, transactions of congresses, etc.), more than 1,300 periodicals have been scanned regardless of their time of publications. Die Kataloge erschließen einen Buchbestand von rund 150.000 Bänden, ein Sammelbecken der internationalen Literatur zur Kunstgeschichte Italiens von frühchristlicher Zeit bis zur Gegenwart. Nicht die politischen Grenzen des Landes, sondern die Reichweite der Ausstrahlungen auf die Kunst nördlich der Alpen und im mediterranen Raum bestimmen den Horizont der Bibliothek. Die Konzentration des Sammelgebietes auf ein traditionsreiches Kernstück geisteswissenschaftlicher Forschungsarbeit hat eine ungewöhnliche Dichte sowohl im Bestand wie in dessen Erschließung ermöglicht. Nach der soeben fertiggestellten Neukatalogisierung und Neuordnung der Bibliothek sind die Kataloge der Hertziana in den Rang einmaliger Fachbibliographien aufgerückt. Der „Systematische Standortkatalog“ (ca. 115.000 Einträge) verzeichnet alle Monographien und Sammelwerke entsprechend ihrer sachlich geordneten Aufstellung. Als Wegweiser zur gesuchten Systemstelle dient eine schematische Übersicht, die in einem gesonderten Band vorliegen wird. Der „Alphabetische Katalog“ (ca. 245.000 Einträge) enthält den kompletten Bestandsnachweis nach bibliographischen Merkmalen: Verfasser, anonyme Sachtitel, Serien, Periodica, alle mit vielfältigen Querverweisen. Der „Aufsatzautoren-Katalog“ (ca. 120.000 Einträge) berücksichtigt die Verfasser von unselbständig erschienenen Beiträgen im Sachrahmen des Sammelgebietes.
