Short Description

This pilot study presents preventative music therapy work with mixed cultural children's groups in meeting centres close to urban districts in two socially deprived areas. It shows what possibilities ‘free music-oriented work’ with a ‘psychotherapeutic attitude’ can provide to support processes of health promotion, empowerment and integration in an environment characterised by deprivation and marginalisation.

Die als Pilotstudie vorgestellte Untersuchung präsentiert die präventiv-musiktherapeutische Arbeit mit gemischt kulturellen Kindergruppen in stadtteilnahen Begegnungszentren in zwei sozialen Brennpunkten.
Die Autorin stellt die entwicklungspsychologischen Aufgaben im Kontext von Migration und sozialer Benachteiligung unter Heranziehung der aktuellen Integrationsforschung und der transkulturellen Psychotherapie dar. Anhand eines ausführlich analysierten Fallbeispiels werden die spezifischen Potentiale der Musiktherapie im Kontext von Migration und kindlicher Entwicklung herausgearbeitet. Es wird aufgezeigt, welche Möglichkeiten die „freie musikorientierte Arbeit“ mit „psychotherapeutische(r) Grundhaltung“ bereitstellen kann, um in einem von Deprivation und Marginalisierung geprägten Umfeld Prozesse von Gesundheitsförderung, Empowerment und Integration zu unterstützen. Die Studie stellt somit einen Beitrag zur musiktherapeutischen Praxisforschung im Schnittfeld zu musikpädagogischen und sozialpädagogischen Aktivitäten sowie zur „Community Music Therapy“ dar.

Biographical Note

Michaela Weyand is a music therapist, psychotherapist HPG. She has a degree in social work and has worked in open youth welfare and intercultural education since 1992. From 1996 to 2006 project founder and director of a socially integrative music school in a poor neighbourhood in Chile. Since 2007, director of music courses for children with and without a migration background in socially deprived neighbourhoods in the Bonn area.
